- Have you ever encountered a situation with your child where you didn’t know if you should laugh or cry or hide? Maybe you did all three?
- Do you find yourself thinking or saying things like, “I don’t know what else to do.” “I feel like I’ve tried everything and nothing is working.” “Why is everything a struggle?” “I am so tired.” “Is it really supposed to be this hard?”
- Have you ever felt embarrassed by your child’s behavior out in public and had no idea what to do when your child was having a melt down in front of others?
- Have you ever put your kids to bed and felt like sobbing reflecting on the day you just had?
- Have you ever felt guilty about how you handled a situation with your child?
- Are you stressed about juggling your time between your job, spouse, children, [lack of] a social life, and [lack of] me time and self-care?
- Do you and your spouse disagree on how to handle your child’s behavior and big emotions?
- Do you feel you become angry and frustrated too quickly with your little one?
- Does the parent you dreamt of being your entire life look drastically different from the parent you actually are?
Allow me to introduce myself:
I am Colleen Larned. I live in Cleveland, OH with my very supportive and loving husband and two girls (ages 4 and 21 months). I have been working as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (What is a BCBA?) since 2011 but my experience with children and behavior dates back even further. I am currently working with children ages 3-17 with autism spectrum disorder and/or severe problem behaviors. The focus of my work is to find the reason why a child is having difficulty learning or why they are engaging in severe behaviors and then identify interventions and strategies to teach them positive replacement skills. These positive replacement skills, tailored to their individual needs, decrease the difficult behaviors and increase positive behaviors all based on how they learn best, their individualized interests, and motivation. By teaching positive behaviors, I am not just stopping the undesirable behavior, but I am teaching the child new skills to benefit them for the rest of their lives. I provide the training, modeling, feedback, and consistent support with the child and their caretakers until the child is no longer engaging in the severe behavior and has a hefty repertoire of positive replacement skills.
So why are you here?
You are most likely on my site because you are interested in exploring other tools and strategies to help you and your spouse productively navigate the (often!) treacherous waters of childhood and challenging behavior! You want to make things easier for yourself and for your children. You want a strong foundation in parenting to ensure that your children will grow up to be considerate, independent members of society. At the end of the day, you want to be sure your children grow up in a safe, supportive, and secure environment. You want to learn how to consistently provide loving consequences and boundaries so that you can remain calm, free of frustration, and so that your children can trust you to guide them in a peaceful and loving way. You want to always remain in control and have no regrets with how situations were handled. Maybe you just don’t always know how or what to do in those tough, daunting moments. Or in the moment, your emotions get the best of you and you don’t always access your tools. You are not alone. I love working with parents like you as I believe the biggest difference I can make in the world is by providing you with the necessary tools to set the foundation for raising children who become independent, open-minded, and compassionate adults. I love helping parents like you- you are ready and want to commit to taking action to change your own behavior to increase the positive, loving interactions with your children whom you love and cherish so much.
My knowledge, resources, and experience can provide you with all of the valuable information you need to make those positive changes in your home once and for all and you can begin right away. Parenting doesn’t just involve taking care of your children- it involves taking care of yourself, your marriage, and finding the balance between work and home.
You will feel proud of the balanced, calm parent you have become. You will see the results in your entire family. Your children will be happier and daily life will get easier. You will become the parent your child deserves!
